South Tyrolean wine

South Tyrol is the northernmost and smallest wine-growing region in Italy. Thanks to the distinctive climatic conditions in the middle of the Alps, unique and individual wines are produced here.

South Tyrol has 5,000 ha of vineyards, located at 200 metres to 1,000 metres above sea level. The white wines primarily cultivated in South Tyrol are White Burgundy, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, Sylvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Gewuerztraminer, Riesling, Veltliner and Muscat.

The red wines cultivated are mainly Vernatsch, Pinot-Noir, Lagrein, Merlot and Cabernet.
Should we wish to highlight 4 or 5 types of grape that are of particular importance to South Tyrol, then we speak of White Burgundy, Gewuerztraminer, Vernatsch, Lagrein and Pinot Noir.

A distinctive characteristic is to be found in the South Tyrolean wines that grow at over 400 - 500 metres above sea level. These we also refer to as mountain wines, as they stand out with their elegance, wonderful aromas and minerality.
